Mereka juga diminta untuk mengontak ke ATC setempat, karena ATC terdekat, Bali Control, belum mengetahui status mereka. Usai kontak kedua pesawat Hornet AL AS itu terbang menjauh sedangkan kedua F-16 TNI AU return to base, kembali ke pangkalannya, Lanud Iswahjudi, Madiun.
Selain berhasil bertemu dengan Hornet, kedua F-16 TNI AU juga melihat sebuah kapal perang frigat yang sedang berlayar ke arah timur. Setelah F-16 mendarat selamat di pangkalan, TNI AU menerima laporan dari MMC Rai (ATC Bali) bahwa Flight Hornet merupakan bagian dari Armada US Navy.
Namun yang paling penting dan merupakan tolok ukur suksesnya tugas F-16, Hornet AL AS baru saja mengontak MCC Rai dan melaporkan kegiatannya. Keesokan harinya TNI AU terus mengadakan pemantauan terhadap konvoi armada laut AS itu dengan mengirimkan pesawat intai B 737.
Hasil pengintaian dan pemotretan menunjukkan bahwa armada laut AS yang terdiri dari kapal induk USS Carl Vinson, dua frigat dan satu destroyer sedang berlayar di antara Pulau Madura dan Kangean menuju Selat Lombok.
Selama operasi pengintaian itu pesawat surveillance B737 terus dibayangi dua F/A-18 Hornet AL AS.
