“Janganlah mencabut uban. Tidaklah seorang muslim yang memiliki sehelai uban, melainkan uban tersebut akan menjadi cahaya baginya pada hari kiamat nanti,” (HR. Abu Daud 4204 dan dishahihkan al-Albani dalam Shahih Targhib wa Tarhib, 2091).
Dalam riwayat lain disebutkan,
أنه نور المؤمن
“Sesungguhnya uban itu cahaya bagi orang-orang mukmin.”
Ka’b bin Murroh radhiallahu’anhu berkata,”Saya pernah mendengar Rasulullah shallallahu allaihi wasallam bersabda :
مَنْ شَابَ شَيْبَةً فِي الإِسْلامِ كَانَتْ لَهُ نُورًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
“Barangsiapa yang telah beruban dalam Islam, maka dia akan mendapatkan cahaya di hari kiamat,” (HR. Tirmidzi no. 1634 dan diishahihkan oleh AL-Albany dalam shohih Tirmizi).
Berdasarkan dalil dan hadist di atas maka sebaiknya apabila kita telah memiliki uban sebaiknya jangan di cabut.

“Dan apakah Kami tidak memanjangkan umurmu dalam masa yang cukup untuk berfikir bagi orang yang mau berfikir, dan (apakah tidak) datang kepada kamu pemberi peringatan? maka rasakanlah (azab Kami) dan tidak ada bagi orang-orang yang zalim seorang penolongpun,” (QS. Fathir ayat 37).
Yang dimaksudkan dengan “datang kepada kamu pemberi peringatan?” dalam potongan ayat di atas adalah Uban.
Ibnu Katsir menerangkan dalam kitab tafsirnya bahwa para ulama tafsir lainnya seperti Ibnu Abbas, Ikrimah, Qatadan, Ibnu ‘Uyainah, dll, menjelaskan bahwa maksud Sang Pemberi peringatan dalam ayat di atas adalah uban. (Tafsir Ibnu Katsir 6/542).
Seperti yang kita tahu bahwa Uban menurut islam akan muncul pada rambut seseorang pada usia senja.
Oleh karena itu uban bisa dijadikan pengingat manusia bahwa sebenarnya ia telah berada di penghujung kehidupan dan menanti tamu yang tiada seorangpun mengetahuinya kecuali Sang Maha Pencipta.
Nabi Muhammad SAW bersabda dalam hadist riwayat Imam Tirmizi :
أعمار أمتي ما بين الستين إلى لسبعين، وأقلهم من يجوز ذلك
“Umur umatku di antara 60 ke 70 tahun, dan tidak banyak yang melebihi daripada itu,” (HR. Imam Tirmizi)
3. Menjadikan seseorang tidak lagi serakah
Munculnya uban pada rambut seseorang mengingatkan bahwa tidak selamanya kita akan hidup di dunia.

Ibnu Abid Dun-ya meriwayatkan dari sanadnya bahwa Bakr bin Abdillah Al-Muzani berkata,
إذا أردت أن تنفعك صلاتك فقل: لعلي لا أصلي بعدها
“Bila Anda ingin mendapat manfaat dari shalat Anda, maka katakanlah pada diri Anda: Barangkali setelah ini aku tidak akan shalat lagi.”
5. Memancarkan sikap tabah dan wibawa

إِنَّ مِنْ إِجْلَالِ اللهِ إِكْرَامَ ذِي الشَّيْبَةِ الْمُسْلِمِ
“Sesunguhnya termasuk dari pengagungan kepada Alloh ialah menghormati orang muslim yang sudah beruban (orang tua),” (HR. Abu Dawud dari hadits Abu Musa ra. Hadits hasan).
Riwayat lain menjelaskan dari Sa’id bin Musayyib berkata
كام ابراهيم أول من ضيف الضيف وأول الناس كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوَّلَ النَّاسِ ضَيَّفَ الضَّيْفَ وَأَوَّلَ النَّاسِ اخْتَتَنَ وَأَوَّلَ النَّاسِ قَصَّ الشَّارِبَ وَأَوَّلَ النَّاسِ رَأَى الشَّيْبَ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ مَا هَذَا فَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَقَارٌ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ زِدْنِي وَقَارًا
“Ibrahim adalah orang pertama yang menjamu tamu, orang pertama yang berkhitan, orang pertama yang memotong kumis, dan orang pertama yang melihat uban lalu berkata: Apakah ini wahai Tuhanku? Maka Allah berfirman: kewibawaan wahai Ibrahim. Ibrahim berkata: Wahai Tuhanku, tambahkan aku kewibawaan itu,”(HR. Bukhori dalam Al-Adabul Mufrod 120 dan Imam Malik dalam Al-Muwatto’ 9/58)
