KUALA LUMPUR: Penggunaan Nyamuk Toxorhynchites atau ‘nyamuk gajah’ untuk membasmi wabak denggi telah menunjukkan hasil yang positif.

Satu ‘penurunan ketara’ kes demam denggi telah dilaporkan di tapak kajian pertama untuk inovasi kawalan pembiakan Aedes ini, menurut Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ).

Di tapak kajian pertama untuk projek ini iaitu Kampung Sri Aman, Subang, tiada kes denggi dilaporkan daripada Ogos 2012 hingga Julai 2013, semenjak projek ini dimulakan pada Jun 2011.

Ini selepas sebanyak lima kali program pelepasan nyamuk Toxo telah dijalankan di Kampung Sri Aman iaitu pada Oktober 2011, Januari 2012, Julai 2012, Mac 2013 dan Julai 2013.

Jentik-jentik nyamuk Toxo bertindak memakan jentik-jentik nyamuk Aedes sekaligus mengurangkan pembiakan pembawa demam denggi.

MBSJ berharap program Toxo dapat terus membantu mengurangkan kejadian kes denggi di kawasan MPSJ.

Pada masa yang sama, kawasan di bawah MPSJ menunjukkan peningkatan kes denggi sebanyak hampir 900% pada 2014.

Terdapat sebanyak 1,646 sehingga 22 Februari 2014 dibanding dengan tahun sebelumnya bagi tempoh yang sama, iaitu 168 kes bagi tahun 2013 dan 161 kes bagi tahun 2012.

“Daripada 1,646 kes demam denggi/demam denggi berdarah yang dilaporkan itu, 1,298 kes daripadanya adalah kes positif dengan melibatkan 38 kawasan hotspot,” menurut satu kenyataan daripada MPSJ.

MPSJ berkata, antara tindakan yang diambil adalah selaras dengan Garis Panduan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM), iaitu pemeriksaan ‘cari dan musnah’, menjalankan pengwasapan dan membunuh jentik-jentik menggunakan kaedah larvaciding dengan bahan kimia dan agen biologi.

Antara lain, MPSJ juga meningkatkan program kesedaran dan kempen anti denggi dengan menjalankan aktiviti-aktiviti , menjalankan pemantauan dan penutupan tapak binaan aktif yang didapati membiak nyamuk aedes, dan bertemu dengan wakil-wakil penduduk melalui Jawatankuasa Penduduk MPSJ untuk menjalankan aktiviti gotong-royong dan hebahan kesedaran kepada peduduk

“Pengawalan wabak demam denggi memerlukan kerjasama daripada semua pihak. Kerjasama penduduk masih rendah dalam memberi kerjasama semasa pemeriksaan pembiakan aedes dan pengwasapan dijalankan,” kata MPSJ.

Ia berkata semua pihak perlu lebih peka dan tidak lalai untuk memastikan kawasan rumah terutama halaman rumah bebas daripada tempat-tempat berpotensi untuk pembiakan nyamuk.
